Sonoma County Wine Tour

Before we left the San Francisco area, Kim Williams and I took a wine tour. It was booked back in March and it was to be a horse drawn carriage and gourmet lunch visiting four vineyards. We were like kids waiting in anticipation of what we had been so looking forward too. As it turns out, when we arrived we discovered the tour had been cancelled. I tried really hard not to cry, because I was very disappointed and of course a bit annoyed at the fact that I had not received the phone call earlier in the week to inform us of the cancellation. Kim, the strong one that day was not going to let us miss out of some grown up mom time. It just so happens that the vineyard where the tour was supposed to start was one of 9 local vineyards participating in a "Open House" style wine tasting. It only cost a small fraction of what the scheduled tour was so we jumped at the chance. Our wonderful hubbies...Shane took my kids to a local park, had ice cream and played baseball, while Mr. Williams play taxi driver for Kim and I.

Aside from tasting some pretty amazing wines, we got to enjoy a chef created meal at each vineyard. I think we hit a total of 5 of the 9 which was certainly plenty for us. I was in awe once again of the beauty and I can actually say that I tasted several wines from 100+ old vines....oh yummy!!! I came home with a few bottles and would love to have guests over anytime for dinner and a tasty treat if you are interested.

Sodarock Winery had the most fantastic Merlot I have ever tasted. They also had built their buildings around an old historical building from a 130yrs ago or so...if I remember right.

If you ever get a chance to be in the area of sonoma county please visit the Alexander Valley...they have some  very special views and adventures for the taste buds.
